The cycle of support

Having grown up deaf in a world that wasn’t built for him, the support and kindness of others - from family to charities and the stranger who changed his life - helped Carl on his journey during the most challenging times.

As a sporting champion and successful businessman, Carl has never forgotten the role that the support of others played for him. Over the course of his career, Carl has raised over £1 million (and counting!) for charitable causes, through expeditions, events, speaking engagements and more. The goal is simple: to give people with disabilities the best chance to achieve their dreams.

Causes supported

Deaf children & young people

National Deaf Children's Society

Carl’s lifelong connection to the NDCS is one of mutual support. Due to their invaluable help throughout his childhood, Carl’s mum later founded the NDCS branch in Kent. Carl benefited from the generosity of the NDCS as a child, and the charity has a special place in his heart. Through various initiatives, Carl has raised money for the NDCS for over 30 years, including his 2008 North Pole trek. Learn more at www.ndcs.org.uk.

Four-legged friends

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

After narrowly escaping disaster when lightning struck his home in 2001, Carl decided to apply for his first assistance dog. Having gone on to have two fantastic hearing dogs - Ingle and Alfie - who helped him navigate the audible world and provided incredible companionship, Carl showed his appreciation by fundraising extensively for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Supporting women

Against Breast Cancer

Following a pool exhibition in Devon for an audience largely made up of breast cancer survivors, Carl was inspired by their stories and took on a mission to perform 43 pool exhibitions in 43 counties in 43 days, to raise money in the fight against breast cancer. Crossing the length and breadth of England, Carl’s journey also included one extra stop - returning home mid-fundraising for the birth of his daughter, Olivia. And that’s not all...

...the fundraising continues

Whilst the aforementioned charities have been a regular focus, Carl has supported many individual causes, especially centred on helping youngsters to achieve their dreams. From performing a pool exhibition to help a young talent represent his country, to fundraising for purchasing wheelchairs, Carl’s energy for supporting others is relentless. Now the Trustee Governor of Chaigeley Educational Foundation, Carl’s charitable work continues to grow and flourish.

The perfect partnership

One of the key factors that drives Carl is a passion for supporting and spotlighting vital causes. With lived experience of being profoundly deaf, an engaging personality and a dedicated approach to fundraising, Carl’s work for charitable causes has been hugely impactful. In building his own team, Carl has brought on board colleagues with experience in areas such as workplace disability inclusion groups, SEND schools and running a business whose products support deaf children. They’re always looking for the next good cause to support.
